    Trang An, Ninh Binh complex - world heritage site

    7km west of the center of Ninh Binh province and 96 km south of Hanoi, Trang An covers an area of nearly 2,200 ha surrounded by limestone, hills, and river valleys. Trang An is a scenic area near Ninh Bình, Vietnam renowned for its boat cave tours. On 23 June 2014, at the 38th session of the World Heritage Committee in Doha, the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trang An Eco-Tourism Complex is a complex beauty - landscapes called as an 'outdoor geological museum' with numerous caves, mountains, valley water, trees and the historic relic. Trang An cave ecosystem almost belongings to Hoa Lu District and a part of northwest city of Ninh Binh province. 

    According to statistics, Trang An eco-tourism complex has over 310 species of higher plants, many algae and fungi. In particular, there have some rare woods and amount of valuable trees using for food, medicine. In addition, there has about 30 species of mammals, 50 species of birds, dozens of species of reptiles and some rare animals such as: chamois, leopard, phoenix…

    Besides, Trang An exhibits an outstanding humid tropical, limestone tower karst landscape, which is considered to be a model of its kind and of outstanding global geological significance. Dissection of an uplifted limestone massif has reached the final stages of karst evolution, and the modern landscape contains a wide range of classical karst landforms, including spectacular cones, towers and transitional karst hills, surrounded by a network of closed depressions and valleys inter-connected by an intricate system of caves, including many subterranean waterways. Formed by the interaction of some major regional tectonic structures and events, the area is unique in having been invaded and reworked by the sea several times in the recent geological past but is now exposed on land. Landform development over more than five million years has produced a scenic landscape of extraordinary beauty with exceptional aesthetic qualities - a blend of towering cliff-bounded mountains, draped in a natural cover of rain forest, surrounded by huge and deeply developed internal basins whose clear and quietly flowing waters are connected through a maze of underground caverns and streams, many of which are navigable by sampans carrying visitors.


    The only way to discover the place’s beauty is on a small bamboo boat. A 3-hour tour begins at the reception center in Trang An avenue. It takes about ten minutes to go from Trang An to the river through the mountains. The weather is cool here.

    Coming to Trang An eco-tourism complex, tourists can enjoy the grandeur of the mountains, explore majestic caves and have a pure of relaxation with the spiritual culture of Bai Dinh Pagoda.
