    Truc Lam Zen Monastery in Da Lat - where you might feel peace in mind

    To Dalat tourism visitors will wallow in the natural settings in Valley of Love, Sigh Lake, or walking alone on the patches to Bao Dai’s Summer Palace, or watch glows of sunset in the sky on Lang Biang Mountain. Moreover, visitor cannot miss Truc Lam Zen Monastery, where they might feel peace in mind, “leave this world of dust”, and eliminate the city’s busywork. 

    Thien Vien Truc Lam is one of the largest Zen meditation study centres in Vietnam.  The complex was completed in 1994 with the aim of giving new life to the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect, a uniquely Vietnamese form of Zen Buddhism founded during the Tran dynasty (1225-1400). Adherents practice self-reliance and realization through meditation. This is probably the largest Buddhist construction in Vietnam after 1975. There are roughly 100 monks studying Zen Buddhism at the monastery at any given time.

    Along with the Truc Lam Yen Tu Quang Ninh, Truc Lam Tay Thien in Vinh Phuc, Truc Lam Dalat is one of the three largest monasteries in our country under the Truc Lam Yen Tu. Truc Lam Zen Monastery from Dalat city center 5 km, located on Phoenix mountain, above the Tuyen Lam Lake. This is not only the largest Truc Lam Zen Monastery in Lam Dong, but also as places of worship and many domestic and foreign tourists.

    From Dalat city, driving along Trieu Viet Vuong St, passing Bao Dai’s Summer Palace, going ahead to a new road, visitors will place their feet on a holly magnificent land- Truc Lam Zen Monastery.
    Thien Vien Truc Lam Monastery is located outside the centre of Dalat on the road from the city centre towards Prenn Hill. The temple is near the Tuyen Lam Lake, located on Phuong Hoang. 

    Truc Lam Zen Monastery was built starting in 1993, until 1994, it completed the design by architect Vu Xuan Hung and Tran Duc Loc painted and designed with the participation of renowned architect Ngo Viet Thu (who designed the Presidential Palace - now the Reunification Palace, Ho Chi Minh city) on the idea of design and planning of the Venerable Thich Thanh Tu. Truc Lam Zen Monastery is divided into 4 areas: the area of foreign aid, the net loss monk, Venerable Abbot, increased hospital halls and halls of the hospital nuns.

    Along the road winding up the hill to the temple, the bell tower is clearly visible from afar. The tiled roof of the pagoda is also prominent, contrasting against the pine forests that surround it. The entrance of the temple is somewhat isolated, so there is a direct entrance to the temple with 61 steps or climbing, or the person can go directly past Tuyen Lam and then climb 222 steps past the triple gated entrance to enter the main courtyard in front of the temple. The temple is located on a plot of land encompassing 24 hectares. Of the 24 hectares, there are two hectares that are occupied by buildings, divided into two areas, the domestic areas and public areas. The domestic area is closed to the public. There are two domestic quarters, for monks and nuns respectively. Each of the domestic quarters has two meeting rooms for sangha, a meditation hall, a kitchen, dining room and a shed. Currently, there are approximately 50 monks and 50 nuns in religious practice at the temple. 

    Looking down from above the main hall is the Tuyen Lam Lake, magnificent scenery, lakes hillside pines silhouetted Thanh Luong. Below the hill halfway, near Lake Retreat is a two-storey guest house situated on a hill with neat garden setting. This is where the religious women to apply for short-term training at the Truc Lam Zen Monastery . In front of the house is lush bamboo forest. Standing in front of home can see mountain peaks reflected on Elephant for imposing Tuyen Lam Lake.

    It can be said of the garden of the Truc Lam Zen Monastery is one of the tourists not to be missed and is a rare flower variety of exotic flowers collection. The same flowers are hand-planted nursery monks and run a nursery and transplant. The venerable breeds were brought from all over the world for growing nursery. The most famous is the same: myrtle, Australian cotton, consistent solution, ...

    One of the objectives of the temple is to recreate the spirit of Zen Buddhism during the Tran Dynasty that ruled Vietnam form 1225 to 1400. The tradition practiced here was started by Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, who abdicated the throne in favor of his son Tran Anh Tong to become a Buddhist monk and founded a new tradition in Zen. He had incorporated the three sects of Zen that had come to Vietnam from China. This came after he had led royal troops in defeating Nguyen – Mong before retreating to Yen Tu mountain to begin his religious life before travelling around the country to expound the dharma. So, for many people, the Truc Lam Zen Monastery to the opportunity to mix with the pure space subjects Zen place, to rediscover the ego soul behind the noisy, busy life. So many people came to ask for short-term cultivation and is ranked in the lower two-story guest house halfway up the hill to the garden.
