    The traditional Vietnamese foods must have on the Tet

    Vietnam cuisine is very plentiful and various. Each region has the special and featuring food and dishes. Especially, on Tet holiday is the most important and greatest festival in Vietnam and on this occasion, there are many traditional dishes displayed on meals these special days.

    The traditional Vietnamese foods must have on the Tet, such as:

    Chung Cake or Square Cake

    Banh Chung (steamed square cake) and its Southern variety called Banh Tet - is unique to Vietnam's Tet holiday. Banh Chung is a food made from glutinous rice, mung bean and pork, added with many other ingredients. Banh Chung is covered by green leaves (usually banana leaves) and symbolizes the Earth, invented by the prince Lang Lieu from Hung King dynasty.

    Boiled Chicken

    This is also the popular food on Tet holiday. It seems to be the simple dish but always appears in the meals as well as to carry out the worship to ancestors.

    Vietnamese Pork Sausage – “Gio”

    Pork Sausage is made of lean pork, potato starch, ground black pepper and Vietnamese fish sauce. 

    This dissh appears in almost every single Vietnamese traditional events and parties, especially during Tet holiday and Vietnamese wedding receptions.

    Xoi (Sticky rice) is also a very important part of Tet holiday in Vietnam, since the meals to worship the ancestors can not missing this dish.

    Xoi in Tet holidays can be seen in many forms: Xoi Do Xanh (sticky rice with mung bean), Xoi Gac (sticky rice with special “gac” fruit). 

    Xoi gac is favorite the most by people because of its special red color – symbolizes the luck and new achievement for the New Year.
